Phase Two of the Home Upgrade Grant (HUG2) in Kidderminster

The Home Upgrade Grant (HUG2) is a UK Government-funded scheme for properties in England not connected to the gas grid. Local Authorities have been allocated £630 million to provide energy-efficient upgrades and low carbon heating to eligible households from April 2023 to March 2025.

Tackling Fuel Poverty

The HUG2 scheme targets both owner-occupiers and landlords with tenants who struggle to pay heating bills and keep their homes warm in winter. It is part of the UK Government’s Sustainable Warmth strategy, ensuring vulnerable people are not left behind in the transition to net zero.

Eligibility and Costs

To be eligible for grant funding, households must have a low income, a property EPC rating between D and G, and not be connected to the gas grid. Homeowners on a low income will not have to pay anything towards the cost of the upgrades. For private rented properties, landlords must contribute at least a third of the total cost, while social landlords must pay at least half. These measures are crucial for addressing fuel poverty and improving energy efficiency in Kidderminster.
